Iron Maiden’s Flight of Icarus is one of the most iconic songs in rock history. The image derives from a collage, which was then printed using a stencil technique known as pochoir. Building things seems to be a family trait. Edward Fields midcentury poem 'Icarus' re-imagines the ending of a famous Greek myth. Completed in 1947, this bold and light-hearted image is one of 20 pieces Henri Matisse included in his famous book Jazz. Other cautionary myths include the legends of Arachne, Sisyphus, and Aura. We would sail over Crete Island and over the maze that Grandpa built. The flight of Icarus is one of the more famous Greek myths that caution against arrogance and committing hubris. This very airship was the last thing he built before he died.
